Mark Millar's NEMESIS To Be Adapted by Tony Scott?

If your talking about ComicBook movies there’s really one writer/creator thats hot stuff at the moment thats Mark Millar the man that brought us Wanted as well as Kick-Ass. Both those movies more the latter have raised a few eyebrows bring a little bit of freshness to an already overpopulated sub-genre and it going to get even bigger with 20th Century Fox have aqquired the rights to another one of Millars creations this time Nemesis which is drawn by Steve McNiven. Now the rights have been bought and Bleeding Cool with Deadline confirming it that they have a director already in place and his name is Tony Scott!!!

It was only yesterday did watch the first trailer for his net movie Unstopable that now he has another movie attached to his name  but the question been asked when will this be made? As we Know he does have a number of movies he’s already lined up to produce or direct: Potsdamer Platz (mickey rourke, Javier Bardem, Christopher Walken) Hell’s Angels Biopic (Mickey Rourke as Sonny Barger the group founder) and the list goes on and on. Is he the right guy for the job? I’m on the line here as Scott has made alot of movies the past few years which personally been bad ones but you sadly have to go back further back since he’s made a movie that has been good (probably his 1980/1990’s movies) I wonder people are scared to say one of his movies are bad?

It’s been a few years since I read any comicbooks, just like everything else very expensive ( when I started reading comicbooks in in 1990’s an average Marvel comic cost about 65pence about $1,30 and the amount of money I used to spend weekly you would be struggling to buy one now average about £3/$5) , even though I may know some of the titles there’s alot I dont know but Nemesis I beleive is one of the newer comics on the market (March 2010). Millar seems to like his slogan’s (Iwonder if he wrote the new yogi bear poster slogan?) and Nemesis has a few like:

What if the smartest, toughest costumed bad ass in the world was totally evil?” this is only part of Marvel description of the character, here’s the whole lowdown:

Civil War?  Nothing.  Kick-Ass?  A warmup.  What if the smartest, toughest costumed bad ass in the world was totally evil?  Meet Nemesis.  He’s systematically been destroying the lives of every police chief in Asia, and he’s now set his sights on Washington, DC.  Between you and me, the police don’t have a chance.

Civil War comicbook was another project Millar & Nevin worked on which spanned across the Marvel Universe titles which had any U.S Citizaen with any superhuman abilities had to register with the local authorities and undergo ‘proper’ training, this was a big big seller in the comicbook market when it came out. Here’s another less aggressive synopsis for Nemesis, this time form Deadline:

Nemesis focuses on Matt Anderson, a billionaire genius who’s the world’s greatest fighter, bent on avenging the death of his beloved parents.  The twist is, they were villains and he is also a bad guy, a costumed vigilante who travels the world, picking off top cops.  He returns to D.C. to launch a campaign of terror against Blake Morrow, the police chief who captured the caped vigilante’s parents.

As in how good the comic book is, I dont really know as I havent read it plus its only2 issues into the series and it makes you wonder why film studio’s buy rights of a book or comic well before its even established, are they so confident it will be a sucess? Or is it the idea of having a comicbook created by the guy who made Kick-Ass and trying to bleed off some of the sucess of his previous work? Has anyone read Nemesis? Is it any good?

Mark Millar is estatic that Tony Scott is to bring one of his stories to the big screen, here’s a part of what he said at his offical forumboards at Millar World:

The man who shot Maverick in Top Gun, Bruce in the Last Boy Scout, yelled action for Will Smith in Enemy of the State, directed Denzel in Man on FireCrimson Tide and gave me Deneuve’s naughtiest performance in The Hunger is directing our movie. Oh, AND he did True Romance, for my money the best of all the Tarantino flicks. Tony Scott: I can’t even pretend to be cool about this. he also goes onto mention that the screenwriter involved wrote one of his favourite all-time movies and Millar promises that the actor Scott wants to play the lead role “Will Blow Your Socks Off”!!! Any suggestions anyone?
