The film is directed by Zachary Wigon, who is best known for his 2022 film Sanctuary, which saw Margaret Qualley and Christopher Abbott battle it out in a game of wits, all confined to a hotel room. Wigonโs new film is based on the 2025 book by Virginia Feito, who also penned the screenplay for this big-screen adaptation. Alongside Wigon in the producer seats are Dan Kagan and Sebastien Raybaud.
This film had its world premiere at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard category.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at Cannes, lead actress Maika Monroe said: โI knew that it would be the hardest role that I have ever done โ and so incredibly different from anything Iโve ever done.โ She added that โthereโs always a little part of me in roles that I do, something that I can ground it with or connect it with within my own personal life โ but this role was really a departure from that.โ
