Alex Garland the writer of 28 Days Later,Sunshine, Dredd exchanges pen for a lens for Ex_Machina what is been described as an ‘psychological thriller’ which certainly combines a number genres. For a man who has a wealth of experience penning as well as producing for his directorial debut we are intrigued if not impressed.
Ex_Machina tells the story of a inscrutable CEO Nathan (Oscar Isaac) who invites one his young employee prodigy’s (Domhnall Gleeson) for a week in his retreat to meet the first true artificial intelligence. Testing the ‘Turing Theory’ does machine have a conscience a right to be treated like a human and of one robot Ava (Alicia Vikander)
Garland has stated this will be an old fashioned sci-fi one will make you look twice at how far between are man and machine. With a slogan of “To erase the line between man and machine is to obscure the line between men and gods.”that difference may not be far as part as we believe! We are intrigued and have been anxious to see footage of this film as sensibly Universal have kept the word on the film to a bare minimum creating and exciting buzz. Oscar Isaac is becoming one of our favourite actors after years playing ‘supporting roles’ but now he is showing himself as very good versatile actor.
