Lukas Dhont’s Oscar Nominated Close Gets A UK Trailer

Lukas Dhont‘s Close has been making waves since it’s Grand Prix winning Cannes premiere. In March Dhont‘s coming of age drama will be released in the UK, today you can check out the official Trailer.
Now add an Oscar nomination for Best International Film. This film is the Belgium film-maker’s follow up to his feature film debut Girl. Another film of coming of age story from a Trans girl’s perspective and her struggles with gender dysphoria and self-harm.
Close is all about friendship, identity and healing. The film stars Eden Dambrine and Gustav De Waele as best friends. 13 year boys whose friendship is intense, going so well and you could mistake them as brothers. Suddenly things change drastically, the boys struggle to understand what has happened.
The awards and awards nominations highlight how much the critics loved this film. MUBI have noticed this and quickly picked this up (A24 Films in U.S). Dhont early in his career seems to have made a name for himself as a storyteller of complicated, emotional characters. This one looks intensely emotional…

CLOSE is an elegant, poetic and empathetic study of youth from acclaimed writer-director Lukas Dhont. Thirteen-year-olds Léo and Rémi are inseparable; best friends, as close as brothers. However as they start a new school year, the pressures of burgeoning adolescence challenge their bond with unexpected and far-reaching consequences. With incredible performances from newcomers Eden Dambrine and Gustav De Waele, Dhont’s evocative second film is a profoundly moving coming of age story that will have an enduring impact.
The rest of the cast includes Emilie Dequenne, Léa Drucker, Kevin Janssens, Marc Weiss, Igor Van Dessel and Léon Bataille.
Close will get a UK and Irish cinema release from 3rd March. Then on 21st April it will be exclusively shown on MUBI.
