Luca Guadagino’s ‘Artificial’ Gets Exciting New Cast Member
Rising star Monica Barbaro has been officially confirmed to join the star-studded cast of Luca Guadagnino’s next film, Artificial, for Amazon MGM Studios.
Plot details for the film are so far under wraps, but the film is currently being described as a “comedic drama set in the world of artificial intelligence”. Some reports, however, are suggesting it will cover the company OpenAI during the period in 2013 when it fired and rehired its CEO Sam Altman, over the space of a few days. Barbaro will be joining Andrew Garfield (rumoured to play Altman) and Yura Borisov (rumoured to play co-founder Iya Sutskever) in the cast, as well as the likes of Jason Schwartzman, Cooper Hoffman, and Cooper Koch. The script was written by Simon Rich, with the film being produced by David Heyman, Jeffrey Clifford, and Jennifer Fox.
This year, Barbaro earned her first Academy Award nomination for her performance as folk singer and activist Joan Baez in A Complete Unknown, and she’ll next star in Amazon MGM’s Crime 101 opposite Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Barry Keoghan. She’s also due to make her stage debut in the upcoming revival of Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ Les Liaisons Dangereuses at London’s National Theatre.
The film also marks Guadagnino’s latest collaboration with Amazon and MGM Studios. His next film, After The Hunt,is due to debut at the Venice Film Festival before a wider theatrical release on the 10th October. It follows a college professor forced to grapple with her secretive past after one of her colleagues is faced with a serious accusation. Starring in the film will be Julia Roberts, Andrew Garfield, and Ayo Edebiri.
