Lizzy Caplan Talks Abandoned “30s Screwball Comedy” Gambit Film With Channing Tatum

Now You See Me 2 and The Masters of Sex star Lizzy Caplan has been talking about the time she almost made her debut in a comic book/superhero film – the abandoned Gambit spin-off that would have starred Channing Tatum.

Back in 2017, Deadline reported that Caplan was in talks to co-star alongside  Tatum in the standalone film based on the X-Men character, one that had been mooted for many years even before Tatum’s involvement. After a while of preparation for the movie, it was scrapped and remains unmade even today. Caplan, it seems, was much further down the line with it than anyone thought, telling Business Insider;

“We got down the road, we were gonna shoot it… I think there was a start date. I had had meetings with Channing, and there were a couple different… we had a director, then we didn’t, but I had multiple meetings with Channing and the other producers.”

Tatum said in a post on X last summer: “I thought I had lost Gambit forever. But [Ryan Reynolds fought for me and Gambit,”  “I will owe him probably forever. Cause I’m not sure how I could ever do something that would be equal to what this has meant to me. I love ya buddy.”

Caplan can currently be seen in Netflix’s Zero Day opposite Robert De Niro, which is now streaming.
