LET ME IN- Video Interviews
this weekend saw the release of Matt Reeves adaptation of the classic coming of age story with a vampire twist LET ME IN, based on the John Ajvide Lindqvist book named LET THE RIGHT ONE IN.
Owen is an 11 year old boy living in the 1980’s in a torn home (parents split, living with alcaholic mother) been brutally bullied at school who befriends a young girl who moves in next door with her guardian but she has a secret, she is a vampire.
The original movie became a cult hit when it was released back in 2008 so when Cloverfield director Matt Reeves decided to remake the movie he was welcome with pure skepticism. Hollywoods record of remakes is very bad so you could see people believed Reeves was treading on eggshells or some sacarlige that he was going to destroy the essence of the original with a mediocre version.
I was fortunate last week to catch a preview of the movie and my fears were dashed as Reeves has created an fantastic version of the movie, yes it does have faults but it does have enough to compliment the original but also stand on its own. When I watch a movie with such antcipation I do like to observe the audience for reaction I will say it was mixed but not in a negative way but more they believed there were watching HitGirl from KickAss playing a vampire and expecting blood and gore (which there is plenty off) but not understanding and appreciating the movie was more than vampires but a new look at coming of age story.
