Legendary Actor Carl Reiner Dead At 98
A doyen of American comedy and father of the well-known director Rob Reiner, is not with us anymore.
The acknowledged comedian, actor, director, writer and producer Carl Reiner has died at the age of 98 on Monday night in Beverly Hills, USA. His demise was announced yesterday on Twitter by Carl’s son Rob, an established filmmaker himself, known for instance for directing the classics When Harry Met Sally… or Misery.
“As I write this my heart is hurting. He was my guiding light,” posted Rob Reiner on Social Media. The departure of the great artist has been already grieved by many fellow actors. “My friend Carl Reiner died last night. His talent will live on for a long time, but the loss of his kindness and decency leaves a hole in our hearts. We love you, Carl,” tweeted for instance Alan Alda.
Carl Reiner’s career spanned over unbelievable seven decades. A gifted comedian started performing while serving in US army during the Second World War. His breakthrough came in the early 1960s with the cult TV programme The Dick Van Dyke Show, one of the greatest sitcoms ever made. Reiner participated on the project as an actor, writer and producer. He also frequently collaborated with the notorious parody-maker Mel Brooks. From his numerous parts in movies you can probably remember him the best as Saul Bloom, a veteran fraud in Ocean’s Eleven – the crime trilogy made by Steven Soderbergh. Reiner further voiced a significant number of characters in animated films (for example, in Toy Story 4), and made guest appearances in popular TV shows, such as Two and a Half Men. He passed away of natural causes at his home. Carl is certainly going to be missed by his family, as well as thousands of fans all over the world.
