Nine days time judge, jury, hopefully not executioner will be out when Rupert Sander‘s Hollywood version of the Anime classic Ghost In The Shell, will be in our cinemas. The past few weeks we’ve been treated to a number of behind the scenes featurettes which dive into certain elements or scenes for the upcoming movie. Several of them have mentioned the vision of the director and how it helped those people, but with no sneak peek into Sander’s vision until now.
Those kind folks at Paramount Pictures have sent us a new Featurette entitled ‘Rupert’s Vision‘ with Rupert Sanders himself sharing a taster of what inspired him in this project. It’s monster of an animation to adapt especially when you know how much the anime has inspired many other sci-fi movies. As you’ll hear from Scarlett Johansson (who plays Major), she states ‘his thumbprints are all over the project’ whilst respecting the original source.
Despite the protests from some fans with the casting, we don’t want to jinx this movie. This is a mammoth task which has endless numbers of many loved scenes, characters, tropes, even if something was changed with the best interest it could go down negatively. Whatever you think of this movie you have to give credit to Rupert Sanders and his crew for been ‘man’ enough to give the project a go. Personally, we might have nothing to fear, we’re excited, are you?
In the near future, Major (Scarlett Johansson) is the first of her kind: A human saved from a terrible crash, who is cyber-enhanced to be a perfect soldier devoted to stopping the world’s most dangerous criminals. When terrorism reaches a new level that includes the ability to hack into people’s minds and control them, Major is uniquely qualified to stop it. As she prepares to face a new enemy, Major discovers that she has been lied to: her life was not saved, it was stolen. She will stop at nothing to recover her past, find out who did this to her and stop them before they do it to others. Based on the internationally acclaimed Japanese Manga, The Ghost in the Shell.
Ghost In The Shell is out in UK&Ireland 30th March (USA 31st). Starring Juliette Binoche, Michael Pitt, Beat Takeshi Kitano, Pilou Asbæk, Rila Fukushima, Kaori Momoi, Chin Han.
