If you ever need another indictment  why David Cameron’s “we’re in this together” is a disaster, Ken Loach‘s  Palme d’Or winner I, Daniel Blake is that evidence. Today the award winning film kicks off it’s UK cinema promotion with the release of the film’s official UK trailer

The acclaimed film marks Loach’s second Cannes Palme d’Or win which once again sees him teaming up with screenwriter Paul Laverty (The Wind that Shakes the Barley, Jimmy’s Hall, The Angels’ Share). I, Daniel Blake stars British comedian, Dave Johns and Hayley Squires (A Royal Night Out). The film takes an honest look at the UK welfare system with a story that is heartfelt, humorous and brutally moving.

In I,Daniel Blake we meet middle aged mane Daniel Blake (59)who has worked as a joiner most of his life in Newcastle. Now, for the first time ever, he needs help from the State. He crosses paths with single mother Katie and her two young children, Daisy and Dylan. Katie’s only chance to escape a one-roomed homeless hostel in London has been to accept a flat in a city she doesn’t know, some 300 miles away.

Daniel and Katie find themselves in no-man’s land, caught on the barbed wire of welfare bureaucracy as played out against the rhetoric of ‘striver and skiver’ in modern-day Britain.

To many Ken Loach is seen as a working class hero, a man proud of his own working class roots and political left wing views. This has seen him heavily criticised by the right wing press who have called him a ‘fantasist’ will cinephiles critics know he’s a humanist who understands and highlights the demonisation of those the government call ‘scroungers’ do need a little help to move in the right direction. Ken Loach always delivers a charming, warming real side of people, whilst been a damning critique of the Tory government bureaucracy.

I, Daniel Brake is been released by Entertainment One and will be released in UK &Irish Cinemas From 21st October.
