Ok Trekkie fans it looks like the long wait is finally over as it looks like Paramount have got ‘fast and furious’ and found themselves their new director for Star Trek 3, Justin Lin.

After successfully re-energizing the fast & Furious franchise Lin will now step in and take over the helm from JJ Abrams as we know is feeling the force moving to Star Wars franchise. According to Deadline Justin Lin has beaten off the likes of Morten Tyldrum, Robert Orci, Rupert Wyatt, Duncan Jones and Daniel Espinosa to land the job. It seems Orci who has been behind the scripting of the previous films may have been the only person to be offered the gig of directing  with creative differences been the reason for Orci dropping out despite an endorsement from Abrams.

So is the man behind flying cars destroying helicopters in the air, Juggernaut planes, safe stealing cars in full chase worthy of directing USS Enterprise in her next cinematic adventure? We say yes, due to the heavy FX laden effects of Fast & Furious franchise Star Trek will seem a natural progression as both films are near enough both Billion dollar box office films.

Whilst Dwayne Johnson maybe seen as ‘franchise Viagra’ Justin Lin seems to be the directorial equivalent injecting much needed goodness into film franchise he takes the reigns off. At one time he was top of the list for the upcoming Terminator reboot, his next gig is The Bourne Legacy sequel, with 2 episodes of season 2 of True Detective on the the cards too. But like his TV gig Star Trek 3 may not need as much needed TLC just extra enhancement of how good both franchise are.

It’s not all doom & gloom for Robert Orci he will still be onboard Star Trek 3 as a producer plus overseeing scripting with J.D Payne and Patrick McKay. No word on what, who, plot line the film will take but with 50th Anniversary of Star Trek coming up in 2016 expect things to move  quicker than usual and don’t even be surprise if Leonard Nimoy won’t be the only original member of Star Trek to appear in the new movie!
