July’s Signature Entertainment Slate Has Alien Invasions, Mobsters And Werewolves

The sun maybe out (for now), Signature Entertainment has your back covered when comes to those wanting some  good old fashioned entertainment. It’s the first day of July  and this month has alien invasions, mobsters with cakes and werewolves  but whodunnit?

Witch Hunt (97mins)

Hunted. Persecuted. Executed. The witch trials come to life in modern day America and no one is safe from the persecution or execution. With this added pressure and growing hostility from those on the trail with him, will Ray even make it through the day? Black Medicine

Alone (Cert 15, 98mins)

Alone is a tense and tightly-wound thriller from John Hyams, director of Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning and the upcoming Maniac Cop remake. Jessica (Jules Willcox, Bloodline) drives on a long, lonely stretch of road in the Pacific Northwest. Attempting to rebound from a tragic loss, she’s packed up her belongings and is headed back to her hometown to restart her life. Also on this stretch of road is a Man (Marc Menchaca, Ozark) who, at first, seems harmless enough, but keeps showing up in the same places as Jessica. It’s no coincidence. The Man has hostile plans for her, and once in his clutches she has to fight her way out to safety somewhere in the wilderness, away from civilization, away from any help and away from the devious psychotic out to destroy her. And she’ll have to face it all alone.

The Birthday Cake

The Godfather meets Layer Cake, The Birthday Cake is a hard-hitting and gripping mob-drama directed by Jimmy Giannopoulos with a murderous all-star cast including Ewan McGregor (Trainspotting), Val Kilmer (Top Gun), William Fichtner (Prison Break), Luis Guzmán (Traffic), Lorraine Bracco (Goodfellas), Emory Cohen (Brooklyn), Paul Sorvino (Goodfellas), Penn Padgley (You), Ashley Benson (Pretty Little Liars) and Shiloh Fernandez (Red Riding Hood), who is also co-writer with Diomedes Raul Bermudez. Werewolves Within

Werewolves Within is a witty whodunnit horror directed by Josh Ruben (Scare Me) from a screenplay by Mishna Wolff, based on the video game of the same name. The film takes place in the small US town of Beaverfield, where a snowstorm has trapped a group of residents inside a local inn. Forest ranger Fin (Sam Richardson, Veep) and postal worker Cecily (Milana Vayntrub, Marvel’s New Warriors) seek to maintain peace among the residents and uncover the truth behind a mysterious and dangerous creature. The fun new film boasts a hilarious comedic ensemble cast also including Broadway star Cheyenne Jackson (American Horror Story), Sarah Burns (Big Little Lies) and Harvey Guillen (What We Do In The Shadows TV). Produced by Ubisoft Film and Television (Assassin’s Creed). The Hollywood Reporter recently described the film as a “hidden gem: John Carpenter meets Clue”.

The Operative (Cert 15, 112mins)

Munich meets Homeland in the taught and pacey psychological thriller The Operative, available on DVD and Digital platforms from 13th January. To celebrate the release of The Operative we have some DVD copies to give away. The film follows the story of Rachel (Diane Kruger, Inglourious Basterds), a rogue spy from Israel’s feared national intelligence force Mossad, vanishes without a trace while attending her father’s funeral in London. The only clue to her whereabouts is a cryptic phone call she places to her former handler Thomas (Martin Freeman, The Hobbit Trilogy), who is then summoned from Germany to Israel by Mossad. With Rachel’s life immersed in her assignments as part of a vast espionage effort against Iran’s nuclear program, Thomas must retrace her steps to determine what threats she may now pose to their operation, while also working to protect her.
