“What have you been up to in your little zoo?” Universal Pictures has unveiled the first UK trailer for Niki Caro‘s (Whale Rider) The Zookeeper’s Wife starring Jessica Chastain. Based on the incredible true story when love for animals and humanity is challenged when the Nazi’s invade Poland during World War 2…
It maybe nearly 70 years since World War 2 ended, amazing we’re still reading about stories of bravery by individuals during periods of adversity. The Zabinski’s put themselves in tremendous danger, a harrowing, profound that deserves to be told not just on paper but also on the big screen.
The Zookeeper’s Wife, a real-life story of one working wife and mother who became a hero to hundreds during World War II. In 1939 Poland, Antonina Żabińska (portrayed by two-time Academy Award nominee Jessica Chastain) and her husband, Dr. Jan Żabiński (Johan Heldenbergh of The Broken Circle Breakdown), have the Warsaw Zoo flourishing under his stewardship and her care. When their country is invaded by the Nazis, Jan and Antonina are stunned – and forced to report to the Reich’s newly appointed chief zoologist, Lutz Heck (Daniel Brühl of Captain America: Civil War). To fight back on their own terms, Antonina and Jan covertly begin working with the Resistance – and put into action plans to save lives out of what has become the Warsaw Ghetto, with Antonina putting herself and even her children at great risk.
It’s hard to believe in 2016 people are still persecuted for their religious beliefs. There maybe parts of the world that are dangerous, we can thank our lucky stars we don’t live during World War 2. This an era we mustn’t forget about and it’s astonishing to know a place like a Zoo had another purpose other than animals.I am surprised this movie is not been released around about now as it has plenty of fuel to be considered a strong candidate for awards glory.
The Zookeeper’s Wife is set for a 5th May 2017 UK&Irish cinema release (USA 31st March 2017).
