Jennifer Lawrence To Star In Zach Cregger's New Sci-Fi Movie

Jennifer Lawrence has joined the cast of Zach Cregger‘s upcoming sci-fi movie The Flood at Warner Bros’ New Line Cinema.

The Weapons filmmaker returns to New Line on a sci-fi thriller he’ll direct, produce and write based on an original idea. Amblin Entertainment is producing The Flood alongside Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment.

Warner Bros Motion Picture chairs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy describe Lawrence as “one of the most gifted and compelling actors working today”. They said: “We are thrilled to have her at the center of Zach’s bold and wholly original vision for The Flood,” adding, “Following our extraordinary experience together on Weapons, we could not be more excited to reunite with Zach and the team at Vertigo, as well as Amblin to bring this ambitious film to audiences around the world.”

Cregger also said: “Mike, Pam and the whole Warner Bros/New Line team were an absolute dream to collaborate with on Weapons, and I couldn’t be happier to dive in with them again…Jennifer is one of a kind, and I’m beyond excited to see her in this role.”

In 2025, Weapons led the domestic box office for four consecutive weeks and earned $270 million worldwide last year. It ranks among 2025’s highest-grossing horror films. Amy Madigan won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Aunt Gladys. Madigan will reprise this role in the upcoming film Gladys. As for Lawrence, she won the Best Actress Oscar in 2013 for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook. She went on to star in The Hunger Games franchise, Joy, and Don’t Look Up. In 2025, Lawrence earned a Golden Globe nomination for her performance in Die My Love.

Lawrence’s production company Excellent Cadaver has produced films including No Hard Feelings and the Peabody-winning documentary Bread and Roses. Up next, Excellent Cadaver will produce What Happens at Night, starring Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Martin Scorsese.

The Flood has a release date of August 11, 2028.
