Jake Gyllenhaal Takes Apart His Marriage In Demolition New Clip
Fox Searchlight Pictures has today sent us a new clip from Demoltion. Titled ‘Taking Apart My Marriage’, the clip sees Davis (Jake Gyllenhaal) take a sledgehammer to his home, aided by Chris (newcomer Judah Lewis).
Davis (Jake Gyllenhaal), a successful investment banker, struggles after losing his wife in a tragic car crash. Despite pressure from his father in law Phil (Chris Cooper) to pull it together, Davis continues to unravel. What starts as a complaint letter to a vending machine company turns into a series of letters revealing startling personal admissions. Davis’ letters catch the attention of customer service rep Karen (Naomi Watts) and, amidst emotional and financial burdens of her own, the two form an unlikely connection. With the help of Karen and her son Chris (Judah Lewis), Davis starts to rebuild, beginning with the demolition of the life he once knew.
Demolition continues Jean Marc Vallée film journey of characters rebuilding their lives after a major life changing event (Dallas Buyers Club, Wild the other 2). Whilst all the re-birth of the film’s protagonists journey’s are about aftermath of those events Davis journey is not about the loss but finding his own path, journey that seems to lost it’s way. This clip suggests things in marriage might have not been as rosy as the story suggests, and thinking about more yourself than what others are thinking.
