Is Awkwafina The Latest Actor To Join Renfield?

The cast gossip for Universal Pictures Renfield is getting intriguing by the day. Today Deadline are reporting Awkwafina is joining the cast which role that is not known yet.

After yesterday’s news that Nicolas Cage could be set to play the legendary vampire Dracula, could the Shang-Chi And The Ten Rings star set to play the leading female role?

Nicholas Hoult is the only actor confirmed as the film’s titular character, Dracula’s henchman, R.M. Renfield. In Bram Stoker‘s 1897 novel is locked up as a patent in a lunatic asylum. A deluded man who believed he was ‘immortal’ and even drank blood like his master. He would bow to his master wants even if means he eats insects or rats.

The film looks like it will be set in present day, which doesn’t give you any clues who she may play . Could we be looking at her playing a modern day Van Helsing? It wouldn’t be the first time we’ve had a female Van Helsing, with Kelly Overton playing Vanessa Van Helsing in Van Helsing series on Netflix. Her character may only be inspired by the iconic vampire Hunter

The film has been described in some quarters it will be “extremely violent comedy,” which makes it logical to have the actress in the film especially she is someone with big comedic chops. Awkwafina has made a name for herself in various roles such as Bad Rep, The Farewell, Crazy Rich Asians even voicing a dragon in Raya and the Last Dragon for Disney. Playing Katy in Shang-Chi will be her biggest role to date making her a perfect choice for this film.

Despite The Mummy reboot being a box office failure Universal put their Dark Universe on hold. They are still committed to working on their classic monsters back catalogue, tweaking it, updating it for modern audiences, so could Renfield be the first of many other projects?

The Tomorrow War/ The Lego Batman Movie director Chris McKay set to direct with Ryan Ridley (Rick and Morty)writing the script. All based on an original story outline written by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman.
