Interviews: We Chat to the Stars of Is This Thing On? At UK Gala Screening
To celebrate the release of Bradley Cooper‘s cathartic comedy-drama Is This Thing On? we had the pleasure of speaking to not only stars Will Arnett, Bradley Cooper and Andra Day, but also producer Kris Thyiker and comedian John Bishop, whose experiences starting out in the stand-up circuit, notably at the Frog and Bucket comedy club in Manchester inspired Arnett to write his screenplay.
Braving the typically British weather, rain-soaked (and willing!) writers Lily Hitchen and Erin Mussett spoke to cast and crew about their research into the amateur stand-up circuit, old jokes, and tackling stage fright with stardom. Countless “it’s so cold!” exchanges, a rude umbrella, a dazzling glance at Laura Dern and a stolen mic — we’re looking at you, Arnett — the UK Gala Screening of Is This Thing On? was overwhelmingly joyous.
A grounded and heartfelt directorial effort from Bradley Cooper, Is This Thing On? follows divorcees Alex and Tess Novak as they navigate their separation by revelling in stumbled-upon hobbies and old athletic pursuits in the heart of New York City. You can read our review by Ellis Lamai here.
