Indicator In April Will Be Full Of ‘Adventures’
After the insanity of March, Indicator offers a more light hearted but naughty month full of Adventures in April.
On 25th April (26th April in the US and Canada) , the month offers up a heady mix of British comedy which explores the fantasies and failings of the male of the species.
First up is STANLEY LONG’S ADVENTURES: A SEVENTIES SEX COMEDY THREESOME. Dubbed the ‘King of Exploitation’ by the UK’s tabloid press, Stanley Long reached his commercial pinnacle in the late seventies with this trio of sex comedies. Beginning with Adventures of a Taxi Driver in 1976, Long quickly set the template with the saucy antics of a cheeky cabbie who ‘gets more than his fare share’. Becoming the most successful comedy at the British box office that year, and a bigger money-spinner than Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver, the film was quickly followed by Adventures of a Private Eye in 1977 and Adventures of a Plumber’s Mate in 1978. Presented on Blu-ray for the first time anywhere in the world, Long’s titillating trilogy is accompanied by a host of extra features, including archival audio commentaries with Long, The Best of the Adventures compilation film, made for the nascent videotape market of 1981, and a selection of new interviews and documentaries which have been specially produced by Long’s friend and biographer Simon Sheridan.
Also released in April is one of the great, unsung British films of the twenty-first century, Chris Cooke’s ONE FOR THE ROAD (2003). Made in Nottingham using early digital cameras, this darkly comic tale of alcohol abuse and male fragility boasts a fine ensemble cast, including Indicator favourite Hywel Bennett (Endless Night) as well as Rupert Procter, Greg Chisholm, Mark Devenport, Micaiah Dring and Johann Myers. Presented in what promises to be one of our most extensive editions ever, Cooke’s film is complemented with a brand-new retrospective documentary, a collection of short films by Cooke and Devenport, and much, much more.

ONE FOR THE ROAD (2003) COMEDY
Four men with little in common, other than their attendance of an alcohol rehabilitation course, bond over their love of booze at a nearby pub between sessions. Between pints and bouts of delusion and depression, three of the men hatch a plan to get money out of the fourth – a mansion-dwelling millionaire played by the great Hywel Bennett (Endless Night) in his final feature-film role.
A darkly comic satire on male fragility, Chris Cooke’s One for the Road is one of the great, unsung British films of the twenty-first century. Made in Nottingham using early digital cameras – utilising a beer-soaked, cigarette-stained palette – it avoids the clichés associated with British cinema and embraces the do-anything nature of its chosen format to become its own, distinct work. The film also showcases a fine ensemble of acting talent in not only Bennett, but also Rupert Procter, Greg Chisholm, Mark Devenport, Micaiah Dring and Johann Myers.
