After making it’s world premiere at 2018 Sundance Film Festival, Andrew Heckler‘s Burden finally getting a UK release. Today Signature Entertainment have released the UK Trailer as Forest Whitaker helps a disavowed Klansman in a moving thought-provoking true story.

Despite winning the audience winner award that year, it’s struggled to gain distribution including the USA. There it was recently released and next month we’ll get it here in the UK.

The film tells the true story of Mike Burden (Garrett Hedlund) a Klansman in a small South Carolina town. Thanks to his mother and old school friend Mike starts to re-examine his beliefs. He heads to the local Minister, Reverend Kennedy (Whitaker) fighting racial tensions offers to help Mike. Sheltering him even from his one congregation.

This looks a powerful profound film, which won’t be an easy watch. Looks worth it for Whitaker’s speech…

From Oscarยฎ-nominated filmmaker Robbie Brenner (Dallas Buyers Club), Burden is the shocking, thought-provoking and moving true story of disavowed South Carolina Klansman Mike Burden.

When a museum celebrating the Ku Klux Klan opens in a small South Carolina town, the idealistic Reverend Kennedy (Academy Awardยฎ winner Forest Whitaker) resolves to do everything in his power to prevent long-simmering racial tensions from boiling over. But the members of Kennedy’s congregation are shocked to discover that his plan includes sheltering Mike Burden (Garrett Hedlund), a Klansman whose relationships with both a single-mother (Andrea Riseborough) and a high-school friend (Usher Raymond) force him to re-examine his long-held beliefs.

The film stars Tom Wilkinson, Andrea Riseborough, Tess Harper, Crystal Fox, and Usher.

Signature Entertainment will release Burden from 6th July.
