A Polar Bear stars at someone in water in Nuisance Bear

There’s one pivotal question this film asks ‘Who Is The Real Nuisance?’ and Mubi have released the official Trailer for Nuisance Bear.

The Sundance Grand Jury Prize-winning documentary is created by directors Jack Weisman and Gabriela Osio Vanden. It follows a young polar bear on a journey of migration of Hudson Bay shores in Canada. A path the bear takes every year, this time it crosses paths with humans. As both worlds get closer, the film asks who really is the nuisance?

Whilst human and animal kingdoms attempt live side by side, it was only a matter of time the two will clash. Nuisance Bear shows the journey through one of the animals experience and lengths it would go to stay away from humans.

Synopsis | For thousands of years, polar bears have migrated along the shores of Hudson Bay in northern Canada. Today, that ancient rhythm collides with a human world of tourism, surveillance, and control. NUISANCE BEAR immerses viewers in the experience of a polar bear forced to navigate tourists, wildlife officers, and hunters as climate change delays the freeze and pushes bears closer to human settlements. When a sacred predator is branded a โ€œnuisance,โ€ it becomes unclear who truly belongs in this shared landscape.

Shot in Churchill, Manitobaโ€“the selfโ€“styled โ€œPOLAR BEAR CAPITAL OF THE WORLDโ€ โ€“ with striking intimacy and scale, the film observes bears that are constantly monitored, photographed, and redirected. In tracing this uneasy coexistence, NUISANCE BEAR becomes a meditation on how humans manage, commodify, and redefine wildlifeโ€”overturning the conventions of the nature documentary and reframing animals not as spectacle, but as active agents in a rapidly changing world.

Nuisance Bear will be released by Mubi in UK and Irish cinemas 4th December.
