I Will Find YoU Review

A father imprisoned for his son’s murder receives evidence suggesting his child may still be alive, compelling him to escape and uncover the truth. This twisty new thriller series, based on the novel by Harlan Coben, is very much what we have come to expect from his adaptations: plenty of twists and turns, and the constant feeling that you can’t trust any of the characters. The main difference this time is that it’s an American production with a stacked cast of familiar faces.

Sam Worthington does a fantastic job in the lead role as the grieving father accused of his son’s death. He perfectly portrays the frustration of a man who has lost everything but knows he is innocent. Britt Lower also gives a great performance as his sister-in-law, bringing plenty of emotion and complexity to the role. It’s always great to see Milo Ventimiglia in anything; I genuinely feel like I could watch this man act in just about anything. Even in a supporting role, he brings a presence that immediately draws your attention. One of the standouts of the show, which comes as no surprise, is its characters. They are well thought out and well developed, even within the short eight-episode run.

One of the show’s greatest strengths is how it keeps you guessing right until the end of the final episode. The twists and turns come thick and fast, helping to keep you invested throughout. Most episodes end on a monumental cliffhanger, making this a perfect show to binge-watch. Just when you think you’ve figured things out, the show pulls the rug from under you once again.

The budget for this series felt bigger than some of the other Harlan Coben Netflix productions. This is especially evident during a fantastic chase scene across the rooftops of New York, which is well executed and genuinely keeps you on the edge of your seat. The production value throughout feels a step above some of the previous adaptations.

One of the show’s key themes is the relationship between parent and child. This doesn’t just come across throughWorthington’s character, but through the dynamics between many of the characters. You can really see the common theme of protecting your child running throughout the entire series, and it helps ground the mystery in something emotionally relatable.

Whilst the show is good, I did have a few issues with it. There are some small plot holes here and there, although I think this is more a result of the short runtime. Even though the series builds to a great climax, it does feel slightly rushed, and I think it could have benefited from an extra episode or two to develop certain characters’ motivations further. There were a few moments when I found myself checking out, but overall it held my attention.

I think if you love a Harlan Coben series, you’ll really enjoy this latest addition to the ever-growing Harlan Coben universe. It delivers exactly what fans expect: mystery, suspense, shocking reveals, and plenty of reasons to keep clicking “next episode.
