Gus Van Sant’s Promised Land UK Trailer ‘Promises’ Oscar Glory?

It’s taken them 15 years to work again but already the buzz for Promised Land is of Oscar glory , check out the UK Trailer below. Starring Matt Damon in what was meant to be his directorial début but like many big name Hollywood stars schedules get in the way so Gus Van Sant steps in the first time the pair have worked since Good Will Hunting a film which looks to have the similar  emotional fulfilment.

Promised land tells the story of a corporate salesman sent to a rural town with his co-sales person (Frances McDormand) to finalise a deal for a major gas company but faces a challenge from local activist (John Kransinski) which changes his life. This film does show a heart warming story and a topic  relevant to what unfortunately happens  to much these days. Gus Van Sant may have directed a few duds in his time you cant deny the director is a bit of an expert in creating this type of film. Matt Damon looks fantastic as ever unlike his buddy Ben Affleck who is making a name a solid reliable director Damon gives the same back in acting so we’re glad he didn’t direct this one, Don’t give up the day job Matt!

Promised Land doesn’t have a UK&Irish release date however this trailer is the UK version so we’ll assume one will be confirmed very shortly possibly the same date at USA which is 11th January 2013. Promised Land also stars Rosemarie DeWitt, Hal Holbrook, Scoot McNairy, and Titus Welliver.

Mr. Damon plays Steve Butler, a corporate salesman who arrives in a rural town with his sales partner, Sue Thomason (Ms. McDormand). With the town having been hit hard by the economic decline of recent years, the two outsiders see the local citizens as likely to accept their company’s offer, for drilling rights to their properties, as much-needed relief. What seems like an easy job for the duo becomes complicated by the objection of a respected schoolteacher (Mr. Holbrook) with support from a grassroots campaign led by another man (Mr. Krasinski) who counters Steve both personally and professionally.
