‘Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’ TV Series In The Works At Sky
It has been officially announced that Sky has commissioned a new eight-part series adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s bestselling novel The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
Production on the series, which Left Bank Pictures is handling, will reportedly begin in the Spring. Steve Lightfoot (Spider-Noir, Hannibal, The Punisher) and Angela LeManna (The Haunting of Bly Manor, Behind Her Eyes) are on board to write and executive-produce the project. Amy Pascal and Scott Rudin are also attached as executive producers alongside Andy Harries, Charlotte Moore and John Phillips from Left Bank Pictures.
The series will be available on Sky for audiences in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. International distribution will be handled by Sony Pictures Television, where Left Bank Pictures is based.
It was reported in 2023 that Amazon would be working on a Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series with Veena Sud as showrunner, but this project unfortunately never left the development stage.
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo has been adapted into films multiple times, including a Swedish trilogy starring Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqvist and an American remake directed by David Fincher in 2011. The most recent film in the series was 2018’s The Girl in the Spider’s Web, starring Claire Foy and Sverrir Gudnason.
Stieg Larsson’s original novel follows journalist Mikael Blomkvist and hacker Lisbeth Salander as they investigate the disappearance of a girl from a rich family 40 years prior. The first three books in the Millennium series were finished by Larsson before he died in 2004. David Lagercrantz took over writing duties with The Girl in the Spider’s Web, The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye, and The Girl Who Lived Twice. The books have recently been taken over by Karin Smirnoff, who wrote 2022’s The Girl in the Eagle’s Talons and 2024’s The Girl with Ice in Her Veins.
