Ok horror fans of scotland here’s your chance to enjoy your some horror fun from the team from the UK’s leading horror fantasy film festival Film 4 Frightfest as they head to Glasgow for a weekend of Horror goodies. For its 5th year the team returns to the Glasgow Film Festival in association with Play.com they will bring 3 World Premieres, 1 European Premiere and 3 UK premieres and this does look like there best line up ever.

The movie to kick off the Frightfest weekend off will be the European Premiere of FROZEN directed by Adam Green, this highy anticipated snow shocker by Hatchet director will be in Glasgow to launch the movie. One movie that has got many movie websites full of anticipation is SPLICE directed by Cube director Vincenzo Natali who will be on hand to UK premiere his Frankenstein fable  which stars Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley (the movie was produced by Guillermo del Toro!!!).

What I like and appreciate is when creators or stars of movies actually take time out to come to festivals or premieres and introduce/promote there movie in person, it is a sign of passion of what they’ve created or acted in. This years weekend Festival the directors are doing there bit to promote there flicks:Director Tim Sullivan will introduce the world premiere of his 2001 MANIACS: FIELD OF SCREAMS. Fans of all things giallo you are in for a treat when co-directors Helen Cattet and Bruno Forzani, will introduce the UK premiere of AMER .You’ll think twice if you go on a bachelor party after you watch the great look STAG NIGHT AND director Peter Dowling will be there in person to introduce  the UK premiere  of his subway shocker.

One of my favourite movies of the last decade was the scary Spanish horror [REC] which was introduced to British public at Frightfest’s 2008 Glasgow event, so what better city to have its UK premiere for [REC]2 than Glasgow!!! I am over the moon about this after learning about the movie over 6 months ago and no sign of it coming to UK so Thanks Frightfest, my wish has come true!!!! When you think about exploitation movies your mind will go back to the Russ Meyer sexploitation movies and the blackexploitation movies of 1970’s but in Glasgow you can experience the world premiere of the first ever  Icelandic exploitation flick REYKJAVIK WHALE WATCHING MASSACRE which stars the original leatherface Gunnar Hansen !! Here’s another treat for the Giallo fans and recently restored in in extra long version the classic Lucio Fulci’s A LIZARD IN A WOMAN’S SKIN. Just before the weekend Fightfest presents Breck Eisner‘s remake of George C Romero‘s 1973 chiller THE CRAZIES which stars Hitman Timothy Olyphant and Silent Hill/Surrogates star Radha Mitchell, a nice taster before the main weekend kicks-off

19.00   FROZEN – European premiere

FrightFest has UK launched Adam Green’s Hatchet, Spiral and Grace so are delighted to host the European premiere of Green’s latest chiller so soon after its Sundance debut. A typical day on the ski slopes turns into a nightmare for three snowboarders stranded on the chairlift before their last run. Dangling high off the ground with no way down, how will they survive frostbite, hypothermia and other unexpected dangers?

21:30 2001 MANIACS: FIELD OF SCREAMS – World Premiere

Authorities have shut down the ‘detour’ ensnaring unsuspecting Northerners, so those Pleasant Valley cannibals are heading west in search of new blood. Unfortunately for two beautiful heiresses, and crew of their reality series ‘Road Rascals’, the human meat freaks are about to become more than just ratings killers. Bill (Devil’s Rejects) Moseley steps in as Mayor George W. Buckman in the anarchic sequel returning director Tim Sullivan promises the Glasgow world premiere audience “If the original didn’t secure me a warm spot in Hell, this one sure will!”

23:40 STAG NIGHT – UK Premiere

Three New Yorkers out on a Stag Night hit on two hotties on the subway. Getting pepper-sprayed for their actions, they all accidentally get off at the wrong station – an abandoned stop that’s been closed since the 1970s. Stranded, they make their way down the subway tunnel to find an exit – and witness some homeless men brutally killing a guard. Realizing they are sharing the dank warren with a cannibal clan of primitive subway dwellers, their frantic escape from the deranged murderers is just the beginning of a very bloody and terrifying night.

14:00 A LIZARD IN A WOMAN’S SKIN – World Premiere

Enjoy this re-mastered, restored and never-before-seen fully uncut version of Italian gore-meister Lucio Fulci’s hippy, trippy 1971 giallo classic. Did rich socialite Carol Hammond (gialli goddess Florinda Bolkan) kill her nymphomaniac neighbour during a depraved orgy of LSD-induced sadistic sex? Or is she just being framed by her philandering husband? Swinging London decadence, scandalous blackmail, neurotic visions and gory throat slashing all wrapped up in one of Ennio Morricone’s finest scores. Quirky touches of Fulci fantasy horror make this stylish psycho thriller a quintessential masterpiece of the giallo genre.

16:15 AMER (BITTER) – UK Premiere

Gialli fans will not want to miss co-directors Helene Cattet and Bruno Forzani’s immaculately executed and flawless valentine to the 70s thriller genre popularized by Dario Argento and Mario Bava. Recreating the motifs, clichés and visual codes from the vintage Italian back catalogue (including A Lizard in a Woman’s Skin, Suspiria and Deep Red), the Belgian duo unfold a virtually dialogue free tale of frightening obsession, sexual sensation and stunning black-gloved murder. Scored to recycled Italian soundtrack selections in the Tarantino tradition, the hypnotic and ethereal allure of the classic gialli lives again in this boldly imaginative cult phenomenon.

19:00 [REC] 2 – UK Premiere

FrightFest welcomed co-directors Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza to Glasgow for the UK premiere of their smash hit [REC]. So it’s only fitting we premiere [REC] 2 too, their real-time sequel taking off the moment its predecessor ends. With TV presenter Manuela Velasco being dragged away into the night vision darkness signalling the adrenalin to keep on pumping while canny satanic thrills ramp up the shockudrama even more. Another non-stop ride of frenetic camerawork, jolting scares and pulse-pounding suspense, be amazed and surprised where the talented Spanish duo take their horrific virus borne through blood and saliva next.

21:00 SPLICE – UK Premiere

From Vincenzo Natali, director of Cube and Cypher, and visionary producer Guillermo del Toro, comes a new kind of monster movie. Rebellious scientists Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley defy legal and ethical boundaries and forge ahead with a dangerous experiment: splicing together human and animal DNA to create a new organism. Named ‘Dren’ the creature rapidly develops from a deformed female infant into a beautiful chimera, who forges a bond with both of her creators. But then that bond turns deadly in a Frankenstein fable for the modern era…

23.30  REYKJAVIK WHALE WATCHING MASSACRE – World Premiere

A group of tourists embark on a sightseeing trip aboard a whaling vessel with none other than Captain Gunnar (Leatherface) Hansen himself. It’s when the ship breaks down the terror starts because the day-trippers come under attack from a crew of deranged Fishbillies hellbent on mayhem and slaughter. Let the bloody sea battle begin in director Julius Kemp’s horror comedy hybrid with a strong surreal flavour, the first exploitation film ever made by the Icelandic Film Industry.

2115 THE CRAZIES

Imagine living in a small, sleepy Iowa town where everything is safe and happy…until suddenly it isn’t! Imagine your family, friends and neighbours going quickly and horrifically insane. The reason? A mysterious toxin has contaminated the water supply. In a terrifying tale of the ‘American Dream’ gone horribly wrong, Tim (Hitman) Olyphant and Radha (Silent Hill) Mitchell find themselves trapped in their once idyllic hometown fighting for survival in the highly anticipated reinvention of George Romero’s 1973 cannibalistic classic. Directed by Breck Eisner from a screenplay by Ray Wright (Case 39) and Scott Kosar (The Amityville Horror).

The Crazies is playing on Feb19th at 9.15 pm at the Cineworld.
