In only her second directed feature film Jodie Foster finds herself in behind the lens once again in a different approach to Wall Street crash, as Hollywood’s finest George Clooney and Julia Roberts find themselves pitted against one of the upcoming stars Jack O’Connell.

Money Monster is a taut and tense thriller, about Lee Gates (George Clooney) a bombastic TV personality whose popular financial network show has made him the money wiz of Wall Street. But after he hawks a high tech stock that mysteriously crashes, one irate investor (Jack O’Connell) takes matters into his one hands by taking Gates, his crew, and his ace producer Patty Fenn (Julia Roberts) hostage live on air. Unfolding in real time, Gates and Fenn must find a way to keep themselves alive while simultaneously uncovering the truth behind a tangle of big money lies and the reality that both might be after the answers to the same thing.

It’s certainly still looking good for O’Connell as he continues his holy grail into the Hollywood alumni acting fraternity. It’s amazing to think his long road started away back E4’s Skins, but thanks to terrific performances in Starred Up, 71 and more recently Unbroken Foster has noticed the talent in the young British actor. Clooney and Roberts back together again in a film since the Oceans films however it seems their parts weren’t filmed at the same time meaning monitors or green screens played the part of the other actor. The timing of this film is perfect with many reporting 2016 might be the year of a economic meltdown possibly worldwide, lets hope Money Monster won’t chicken out of pointing fingers on whose to blame rather than sweep it under the carpet.
