Good and evil are choices and in the first official trailer for Netflix‘s upcoming drama series East Of Eden. It looks like Florence Pugh has choices to make as evil lurks.

The series will be a modern adaptation of the classic John Steinbeck novel. This is not the first time the book has been a series, in 1981 Jane Seymour starred as Cathy Ames and Timothy Bottoms as Adam Trask. We can go back to 1955 there was a film directed by Elia Kazan starring James Dean. Cathy in this version was more a background and the film only covered the last third of the book. In 2026 series Cathy Ames becomes the main focus with Pugh our antihero with series promising to cover all the book. The brothers are played by Christopher Abbott and Mike Faist as Adam and Charles Trask.

East Of Eden will explore the multigenerational saga of the Trask family, especially from Cathy’s view with the Trask brothers. Giving something a little darker than your usual American dream and at one point Cathy says “the world is so full of evil” .

John Steinbeck is one of those literature maestros who is a staple diet of English at American schools. Along with Harper Lee, F.Scott Fitzgerald, Steinbeck will always be up there mixing history, social commentary and struggles of the ordinary person.

This 7 part limited series also stars Hoon Lee, Tracy Letts, Ciarรกn Hinds, Martha Plimpton, Joseph Zada, and Joe Anders. Zoe Kazan the granddaughter of Elia Kazan wrote the script with Jeb Stuart as the showrunner.
