First details of Henry Cavill’s sci-fi action franchise adaptation hinted at
Man of Steel and The Witcher star Henry Cavill has headed over to Instagram to share some good news with sci-fi fans.
The actor revealed he and Amazon have come together to get his dream project of a Warhammer 40,000 film off the ground, with some production details hinted at, following “30 years” of dreaming of “seeing a Warhammer universe in live action.”
Carvill is set to serve as executive producer to the series, working under a collaborative project between Amazon and Games Workshop. Starting as a British mini wargame, Warhammer 40,000 has grown into the most popular and adored of its genre, allowing players to spend anywhere between sixty and 180 minutes using miniature models of warriors and vehicles in a fantasy world of monsters and aliens.
“In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war”, reads the game’s infamous tagline.
“Now after 22 years of experience in this industry, I finally feel that I have the skill set and experience to guide a Warhammer Cinematic Universe into life,” Cavill shared in his announcement post. “Partnering with Natalie Viscuso at Vertigo has been a blessing beyond words, without her we might not have found the perfect home at Amazon. And having a home like Amazon will give us the freedom to be true to the massive scope of Warhammer.”
The post came alongside a picture of The Imperial Aquila, held by fans as The Imperial of Man and a hint that the actor’s initial focus on story arcs in the upcoming project. The symbol is worn as a chest guard of the Adeptus Astartes transhuman warriors, considered sacred.
