Film Review – Ratchet And Clank (2016)

Rachet and Clank, the animated science fiction film based on the popular video game series of the same name, fails as all video game adaptations have before it.

The film tells the story of Rachet, a cat like creature, who lives on a desert planet working as a mechanic. He desperately wants to escape and join the galactic rangers, a team of super soldiers who are fighting an evil alien who has designed a space station that can blow up planets. Said villain, voiced by Paul Giamatti, accidentally creates a robot (Clank) who tries to warn the galactic rangers, he however lands on the desert planet and meets Rachet and the two set out to save the galaxy. If this all sounds familiar, well it is; Rachet and Clank tells the story of the original Star Wars again but unlike The Force Awakens, which similarly hit the same story beats, this is absolutely joyless to watch.

Wth PS3 cut scene graphics the film looks terrible, but unlike a game you can’t cut these scenes, no matter how much you wish you could – all the characters talk in the same loud sarcastic manner which wears out your patience within the first few scenes. Rachet and Clank may only be 94 minutes but it felt so long I was wondering when the interval would be.

Rachet and Clank is unoriginal, tiresome, dull to look at and not worth your time.
