Every family has demons or skeletons they want to hide. In Hereditary Toni Collete and Gabriel Byrne family’s secrets can’t ‘stay secret’.
EFD has released the official UK Trailer that’s already claiming the crown as the best horror of 2018. A story of a family coping with grief a small matter of a secret about their ancestry…
After the film’s world premiere at Sundance then at SXSW Film Festivals, its made a lot of big promises.’Scariest film of the year‘ is one of those promises, thankfully those early reviews it keeps to the promise. Another is “a new generation’s The Exorcist“, all quotes to get really excited about especially if you’re a horror fan.
Here in the UK and Ireland EFD are distributing the film, but stateside it’s A24. They have had a great streak of indie horrors that have gone onto be critical successes worldwide. The Babadook, It Follows and The VVitch all share the same root and that atmospheric tone. Not forgetting all arrived via A24, all with a strong leading female protagonist.“It’s pure emotional terrorism” I cannot wait to see.
When Ellen, the matriarch of the Graham family, passes away, her daughter Annie (Toni Colette) and her husband (Gabriel Byrne) and their two children begin to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry. The more they discover, the more they find themselves trying to outrun the sinister fate they seem to have inherited. Making his feature debut, writer-director Ari Aster unleashes a nightmare vision of a domestic breakdown that exhibits the craft and precision of a nascent auteur, transforming a familial tragedy into something ominous and deeply disquieting, and pushing the horror movie into chilling new terrain with its shattering portrait of heritage gone to hell.
