Well first things first. This is NOT a post about me giving you my two cents about how Family Guy ain’t what it use to be. This is a post about me giving you my two cents about the changes in one of my favorite TV shows of all times. So if you came here looking to get my unbiased opinion on the good, the bad and the ugly (Meg), sit back and enjoy because you’re in the right place… Also for the record, I was joking about the Meg part. Love ya, Meg!
Speaking of which, the problem I have with the new Family Guy is the down right horrifying, cruel and just plane of Meg in this show. If you’ve been watching since the beginning, you probably remember Meg as an unpopular teenage school girl who tried to fit in and be cool, but just couldn’t quite cut the mustard. That worked. A lot of us were/are the same way, so therefore, people could relate. Now she’s the brunt of everyone’s jokes. This includes Peter and Louis… you know the people that she’s suppose to call her parents? Yeah… them.
Animation wise, this show gets two thumbs way up from me (no middle finger included). Looking back on earlier episodes, it’s something to really appreciate. I know back then things were different, I’m just saying looking at newer episodes, they certainly didn’t disappoint when it came down to the animation.
Now for problem number 2. Peter Griffin. Sure he made stupid mistakes in almost every episode, but he wasn’t a complete idiot like he is in the recent years. To be honest, it’s played out. No one could possibly be that dumb and if they are, I’m legitimately worried for all of mankind. To sum it all up, the Peter of old may have not been the sharpest knife, but he understood when he fucked when it counted and that… that worked.
This next one might not be what you wanna hear, but I think the new Stewie is alright. While I think evil Stewie is the undisputed king of TV show characters, this new Stevie isn’t terrible. He and Brian are spot on perfect and even though I think Brian has become somewhat of an absolute complete douche, together they are legendary. Anyway, I think this new Stevie might just have potential to be one of the greatest cartoon characters of all time. Well, maybe that’s a bit of a stretch.
I’m not going to lie, those older episodes were classics. Unfortunately, due to everything becoming more PG and family-friendly, I don’t see the old Family Guy coming back anytime soon. Luckily for me, I like the new episodes too. I just wish there some episodes were Brian wasn’t so pussy hungry or Peter wasn’t so annoying. Maybe even through in a random meaningless thought from Chris every now in then. Is that so much to ask? *Family Guy score
