Ahead of the release of Exodus: Gods and Kings in cinemas on 26th December, 20th Century Fox UK have sent us this video of director Ridley Scott, and stars Christian Bale and Joel Edgerton answering questions as part of a BAFTA Q&A.
The film tells the story of Moses (Bale) as he rises up against the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses (Edgerton), setting 400,000 slaves on a monumental journey of escape from Egypt and its terrifying cycle of deadly plagues.
The film has caused some controversy, as although the film is set in Egypt, the principal cast is composed wholly of white actors. Scott responded to his critics somewhat bluntly, stating that if a non-white actor had been cast, the film wouldn’t have been cast, telling Variety, “I can’t mount a film of this budget, where I have to rely on tax rebates in Spain, and say that my lead actor is Mohammad so-and-so from such-and-such”.
In the video, the trio discuss the intricacies of Moses story, and how much they didn’t know about the biblical figure:
Exodus: Gods and Kings also stars Ben Kingsley, John Turturro, Aaron Paul, and Sigourney Weaver, and is released on 26th December.
