When someone talks about “it’s so bad, it’s so good” Paul Verhoeven’s Showgirls is one of films. 25 years ago critics and audiences lined up to greet the film with near universal derision. The film was built up to be the most spectacular blockbuster of the year only to become the biggest flop of the year. Like The Room the film has gained Cult Status and has been shown as many Late Night screenings worldwide.

Jeffrey McHale‘s You Don’t Nomi explores the Cult of Showgirls. The road was never easy and this film complicated afterlife, tracing an extraordinary redemptive journey from notorious flop to cult classic.

Ahead of next month’s release Bulldog Film Distribution have released the film’s  UK Trailer

When SHOWGIRLS was released in 1995, Paul Verhoeven’s salacious NC-17 look at Vegas dancers was met by critics and audiences with near universal derision. Guided by a chorus of film critics, scholars, and fervent devotees, Jeffrey McHale’s documentary explores the legacy and broader implications of SHOWGIRLS, while diving into its cultural inspirations as well as its place in Verhoeven’s filmography.
