We had the child catcher put the fear into us in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. In 2022 we have the’The Grabber‘ snatching kids starring Ethan Hawke as the sadistic killer in The Black Phone. Today Universal Pictures have released the official first UK Trailer for the Blumhouse horror thriller that remind us never to talk to strangers!

The film is directed by Scott Derrickson who returns to the horror genre with Hawke whom he worked with on Sinister. We have to say, Hawke is looking downright terrifying with that mask and equally disturbing. The film premiered at Fantastic Fest earlier this year leaving with some great reviews all stating the performances of Hawke and Mason Thames in his first ever acting role.

The film is based on a short story by Joe Hill’s award winning 20th Century Ghosts. One of a young boy kidnapped by a masked killer (The Grabber) in a smalltown in 1970’s USA. Who lurks amongst the town kidnapping then killing his victims, the young boy however whilst locked in the basement the disconnect phone starts ringing. Calls from the grave and the killer’s previous victims determined the boy won’t be another victim.

The phone is dead. And itโ€™s ringing.

Director Scott Derrickson returns to his terror roots and partners again with the foremost brand in the genre, Blumhouse, with a new horror thriller.

Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killerโ€™s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesnโ€™t happen to Finney.

The film also stars Jeremy Davies, Madeleine McGraw, J. Gaven Wilde, James Ransone, and E. Roger Mitchell.

The Black Phone will be released in the UK, Ireland and the U.S on 4th February 2022.
