Dwayne Johnson To Film Next Jumanji Sooner Than We Think
Dwayne Johnson may be gearing up for the jungle once more. In a recent festival appearance, the wrestler-turned-actor commented on an array of future roles. Ahead of the release of The Smashing Machine, Johnson revealed he plans to balance blockbusters with more nuanced, transformative acting. But Jumanji is firmly on his radar.
Johnson has confirmed that filming for Jumanji 3 will commence in November, Variety reports. Noting his love for the franchise, the actor commented: โThe films that I made in the past, I love them. Iโll go back to making them again.โ
The film is expected to pair Johnson once again with long-time collaborator Kevin Hart. The two share a decorated filmography, appearing together in previous Jumanji instalments and box office successes. No word yet on whether fellow Jumanji alumni Jack Black and Karen Gillan will be part of the third film in their trilogy, but the likelihood is they will be involved.
Although celebrated for comedy and action blockbusters, Johnson has spoken about feeling typecast: โI felt for a few years, I was pigeonholed because I allowed it to happen.โ
The Smashing Machine and Lizard Music, both from director Benny Safdie, may perhaps be Johnsonโs ticket to exploration. Requiring drastic weight changes, the actor has showcased a gritty commitment to realism.
Despite a potential career shift on the horizon, fans of Johnson can relish knowing he doesnโt plan to leave the blockbuster behind entirely. Alongside returning director Jake Kasdan, the third entry in the Jumanji franchise will be Johnsonโs next project.
The new Jumanji is set to release on December 11, 2026.ย The Smashing Machineย will release on October 3rd in the UK.ย
