DVD Review - Visions (2016)

Creepy, chilling and unexpected.

Visions is a new horror film coming to DVD and Digital Download from Lionsgate UK on June 20th 2016.

Starring Isla Fisher (Wedding Crashers, Now You See Me) and Anson Mount (Hell on Wheels, All The Boys Love Mandy Lane). They are a young married couple who are expecting a baby, trying to start a new life and business they start up an old vineyard, but there is something rather odd about the grounds and the house itself. Eveleigh (Fisher) begins experiencing odd and unexplainable things, everyone around her puts it down as being an aftermath effect of a car crash she was in a year previous but after further investigation she discovers that her new home might not be as safe as she thought.

Going into this film I did not want to get my hopes up as I knew it might not be the film I wanted it to be, but thankfully it was that and more. Visions was in fact a film I couldn’t believe was not getting a cinema release. I found it thrilling and hauntingly awesome!

Isla Fisher‘s accent broke in certain parts but for some reason that didn’t bother me, as the film was that good.

Being a horror fan I knew even if the film was not great, I still would have found some enjoyment out of it. I loved the whole back story of the film and how there was an event that happened in Fishers characters past that we only get a certain amount of information about at first which is a driving force in the film. Usually with these types f horror films its just this has happened because of this instead of there being a back ground story of a reason within the film where the character might actually have reasons for being nervous or anxious. I felt it added more depth than the usual genre film.

With all this in mind I think my biggest positive for the film was having the character be in a venerable position (she was pregnant) this added a lot of dread to the film because no matter what you did not want to see the character get hurt even more than the usual female lead. I really have to credit the film makers for adding that detail in as like I say it added something to the film.

The overall atmosphere of the film was always tense there wasn’t really a moment of calm in the film, which I really liked because again it helped give that feel of anything could happen at any time.

The film did suffer at times from that typical Jump Scare gag that horror films of today seem to play up, although for the most part the jump scares were well planned and thought through but there were the odd couple I just thought weren’t needed.

Overall my opinion of this film is just go and buy it you will not regret picking this one up. Again I can’t stress how much I can not believe this did not get even a limited cinema release in the UK but hey, maybe there now saving the best films for DVD. If you’re a horror nut like me you will for sure love this film! Top class, certainly with a few flaws and a bit of a lower grade than a Theatrical release horror film, still it done its job and done it well.
