DVD Review – Butterfly Kiss (1995)

Butterfly Kiss DVDButterfly Kiss is a British thriller from the mid 90’s following the story of two women, one is searching for a woman named Judith who she claims she is in Love with the other – Miriam fascinated by Eunice and together they embark on a road trip through Britain. However a dark cloud hangs over them where ever they go leaving blood and carnage along the way.

This film is one of those rare gems from the 90’s with such a cracking soundtrack and excellent performances from the lead actors. This was not really my kind of film, or so I thought but giving that it had themes of LGBT in it I thought I would give it a try. I am so pleased that I did, because this was a fantastic and emotional film that I am so excited to see getting a re release here in the UK.

It is one of those epic love stories gone wrong type of film and no matter what happened and what the main characters do for some reason you find yourself routing for them anyway.

With a mix of comedy, thriller, romance and drama I can safely say there si something for everyone in this film. From start to finish I found myself really intrigued by the story and I was dying to know what was going to happen next. This, foe me, is a great sign as it means the film knows exactly what it is doing.

There were, however, moments in the film that I found a little boring or slow but it was quickly brought back to the intense tone and darkness that the film had throughout. To really narrow it down what this film is about and more so what genre the film comes under is tricky because there are so many amazing elements that it has a lot of different genres mixed into one awesome film.

There are even moments in the film I still can’t really wrap my head around, but again, the fact that I am still thinking about the film after watching it over 24 hours ago tells you that it is a very impactful film.

With nothing else much to say other than This may not be the film for everyone but it is in my opinion a true gem of a film and one worth adding to anyone’s film collection.
