Donal Logue To Play Racoon City Police Chief In Resident Evil Reboot

The Milla Jovovich  led Paul W.S Anderson Resident Evil  films may have ended, the franchise lives on. Twenty four years after making it’s debut on Playstation the franchise is still expanding with a reboot of the films.

Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down, The Strangers: Prey at Night) is set to direct the new version. Today we learn from Deadline, the film has found it’s Racoon City Police chief, Donal Logue.

The actor is no stranger to the badge playing Detective Harvey Bullock the mentor of Jim Gordon in Gotham. He is set to play Chief Brian Irons, this time an law enforcement officer not on the right side of the law. Corrupt to the core who took bribes from the Umbrella Corp in Resident Evil 2.

Logue is considered one of the best character actors in the industry (film and television). Five seasons in Gotham, other credits include The Cloverfield Paradox, Blade along with Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Logue will be joining Kaya Scodelario (Crawl) as Claire Redfield alongside Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell (Upload) as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) as Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Leon S. Kennedy, and Neal McDonough (Yellowstone) as William Birkin.

The report also said Chad Rook (The Flash) and Lily Gao (The Handmaid’s Tale) also joining the cast in a supporting role.

The actual Resident Evil games have been much loved and still continue today 24 years after the first game. As for the film franchise side of things, they have poorly received with endless negative reviews. Those films were more inspired by the games, Roberts promises his film will be more faithful to the origins story. More visceral and grounded in a human story of the small American town dying, relatable nowadays.

Sony Pictures International will deal with the film internationally, Screen Gems in the U.S. Resident Evil is set for 2021 release.
