Disney’s The Jungle Book Swings To The Top Of UK Box Office

This weekend Disney’s The Jungle Book has proved who is the real “jungle VIP” by debuting at number one at the UK box office with an estimated £9.5 million opening weekend. The ‘baloo-ming’ marvellous result sees the film become the third biggest opening this year following only Batman vs Superman and Deadpool with critics calling the film out as a cinematic experience not to be missed. The result also sees Disney take both 1st and 2nd place at the UK box office with Disney’s Zootropolis still delighting audiences.

Jungle Fever has been taking the world by storm with the film opening this weekend in the US to an estimated $103.6 million making it the second largest April opening in industry history. Globally the film currently stands at $240 million. In India the film has already overtaken the entire lifetime of Titanic and Life of Pi within just one week and is the third biggest Hollywood release ever, only behind Furious 7 and Jurassic World.

Directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man), based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, The Jungle Book is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. The all-star voice cast includes Oscar®-winners Ben Kingsley (Learning to Drive, The Walk), Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Christopher Walken (The Deer Hunter), as well as Bill Murray (Lost in Translation), Idris Elba (Star Trek Beyond), Scarlett Johansson (Avengers: Age of Ultron) and Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad).
