Digital Review - Can You Keep A Secret? (2019)

Based on Sophie Kinsella‘s best-selling novel of the same name, the film boasts an incredible leading duo of Alexandra Daddario (Baywatch, Percy Jackson Series) & Tyler Hoechlin (Teen Wolf, Arrow), with The Hollywood News calling them “romantic comedy gems”. The film also has an exciting supporting cast featuring Orange Is the New Black alumni Kimiko Glenn (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) & Laverne Cox (Charlies Angles).

Synopsis

Can You Keep A Secret? follows New York City marketing manager Emma (Alexandra Daddario) who on a return flight from a botched client meeting, reveals all of her deepest secrets to a handsome stranger when her plane hits turbulence and she believes she is going to die. Emma thinks she will never see the guy again. But when she comes to work Monday morning, Emma’s office is abuzz about the arrival of Jack Harper, the company’s elusive CEO and founder… and the stranger from the plane.

Suddenly Emma is face-to-face with the man who knows every single humiliating detail about her. Over the coming weeks, Emma must navigate her developing relationship with Jack, what he knows of her secrets, and a life she discovers needs transformation.

This film is a true feel-good Rom-Com. It has the girl next door, unlucky in love falling for the extremely good-looking boss. The boss has a good heart and even his deepest secret is one of good nature so when the two finally get together, it’s what we have all been rooting for.

But we are only 2 thirds into the movie so will we get our happy ending? What’s more to the story once boy falls for girl? The boy tells the nation the girl’s secrets, secrets that he feels are endearing to her, but the work colleagues twig their boss is talking about Emma and make fun of her!

Typical misunderstanding and thanks to her narcissist roommate, who thinks she is helping, very nearly ends up losing Jack for good.

The film is funny. Funny in a way you can relate to. Emma’s former boyfriend walks around his flat with no trousers or pants on and just lets it all dangle in front of her, fortunately (I think) for us, we only ever see his hairy butt, but that’s bad enough, but also hilarious.

I wasn’t ready for it to end either, I wanted to see more of Jack and Emma’s relationship and watch it blossom, who knew I was such a romantic!
