David Fincher’s Mank Leads 2021 Oscar Nominations

After the delay in announcing their nominations, earlier today The Academy announced the nominees for The 93rd Academy Awards. In a pandemic struck year, the doubt this year’s ceremony would actually would take place or even what films would also be in line for nominations. After delaying the nominations for a couple of months, the nominations have been revealed.
David Fincher‘s Mank leads the shortlist with 10 nominations including Best Picture, as well as David Fincher for Best Director, Gary Oldman for Best Actor in a Leading Role, and Amanda Seyfried for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
Nomadland, Judas And The Black Messiah, Minari, The Father, Sound Of Metal and The Trail of The Chicago 7 make up the rest of the closest Challengers all with 6 nominations each. As we know in Oscar history having all the nominations doesn’t mean you’ll be the big winner on the night.
Like every year’s shortlist, there is always a host of snubs, surprises and 2021 is not different. Judas and The Black Messiah’s lead actors Daniel Kaluuya and Lakieth Stanfield are in the ‘supporting actor’ category rather than ‘Best actor category. Delroy Lindo, Regina King, Spike Lee are a few names many critics expected to be nominated. Surprises Borat Subsequent Movefilm, Thomas Vinterberg nominated for their respective categories.
The big burning question is how diverse will The Oscars be this year. It seems the Academy are on the right road to highlight Hollywood’s biggest night is for everyone regardless your colour of skin or gender.
