David Dastmalchian Is M. Bison In Street Fighter!

Late Night with the Devil and The Life of Chuck star David Dastmalchian has landed perhaps his biggest role yet: that of legendary Street Fighter villain M. Bison in the new live-action take of the hit video game series.

David Dastmalchian, who also featured in The Dark Knight, The Suicide Squad and Oppenheimer, will take on the role of the film’s big bag, which is being made by Legendary Pictures and released by Columbia Pictures. No details on the film’s plot or anything further have been disclosed just yet.

What we do know is that the actor joins the already cast Jason Momoa as Blanka, Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, Roman Reigns as Akuma, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, 50 Cent as Balrog, Orville Peck as Vega and Andrew Schulz as Dan. Reacher star Alan Ritchson has been rumoured to be playing Guile, but unconfirmed right now.

Kitao Sakurai (Bad Trip) directs the film.

M. Bison is the central villain of many of the games, who is the leader of the criminal organisation known as Shadaloo, which is involved in various illegal activities, including arms trafficking, mind control experiments, and global domination. First launched back in 1987 by CAPCOM, Street Fighter is s super-successful series of fighting games that focus on one-on-one battles. The games have sold over 55 million units worldwide since launch.

The film will be the third attempt to bring the games to life: 1994’s original version, written and directed by Steven E. deSouza, starred Jean-Claude Van Damme, Raul Julia, and Kylie Minogue, amongst others, and was a box office hit despite being panned by fans and critics.

A second film, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, followed in 2009 and starred Kristin Kreuk, Chris Klein. Neal McDonough, Robin Shou, Moon Bloodgood, Josie Ho, Taboo and Michael Clarke Duncan, but flopped at the box office and, too, was panned.

No release date has been set for the new film.
