Criterion Collection UK January Slate Will Be Extravagant and Star Making

John Neville as The Baron

2022 is nearly over. With 2 months left The Criterion Collection and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment want to give Cinephiles best start to the new year. Today they tease us with what January 2023 has to offer and it will be a month that’s going to be ‘Extravagant and Star Making ‘.

On 23rd January comes The Breakfast Club, John Hughes‘ teen classic which vividly captures how young people hang out, act up and goof off! With its highly quotable dialogue and star-making performances, this film is an era-defining pop-culture phenomenon, a disarmingly candid exploration of the trials of adolescence whose influence now spans generations.

Following week on 30th January, comes The Adventures Of Baron Munchausen. The boundless imagination of Terry Gilliam yields a dazzling fantasy of epic proportions, inspired by the extravagant exploits of the fabled Baron Munchausen.

THE BREAKFAST CLUB (1985) COMEDY, DRAMA

What happens when you put five strangers in Saturday detention? Badass posturing, gleeful misbehaviour, and a potent dose of angst. With this exuberant film, writer-director JOHN HUGHES (Sixteen Candles) established himself as the bard of American youth, vividly and empathetically capturing how teenagers hang out, act up, and goof off. The Breakfast Club brings together an assortment of adolescent archetypes—the uptight prom queen (Pretty in Pink’s MOLLY RINGWALD), the stoic jock (Repo Man’s EMILIO ESTEVEZ), the foul-mouthed rebel (New Jack City’s JUDD NELSON), the virginal bookworm (Edward Scissorhands’s ANTHONY MICHAEL HALL), and the kooky recluse (High Art’s ALLY SHEEDY)—and watches them shed their personae and emerge into unlikely friendships. With its highly quotable dialogue and star-making performances, this film is an eradefining pop-The Breakfast Club UK Blu-ray artworkculture phenomenon, a disarmingly candid exploration of the trials of adolescence whose influence now spans generations.

The boundless imagination of TERRY GILLIAM (Brazil) yields a dazzling fantasy of epic proportions. Inspired by the extravagant exploits of the fabled Baron Munchausen, this spectacle—born of a famously turbulent production—follows the whimsical eighteenth-century nobleman (The X-Files’ JOHN NEVILLE) as he embarks on an outlandish quest that takes him from faraway lands to the moon to the belly of a sea monster and beyond, meanwhile waging battle against a vengeful sultan and the tyranny of logic. Packed frame to frame with special effects, mischievous wit, and colourful performances—including a young SARAH POLLEY (The Sweet Hereafter) The ADvetures Of Baron Munchausen Blu-ray Artworkas the Baron’s no-nonsense sidekick— the Oscar-nominated The Adventures of Baron Munchausen is a lavish celebration of the triumph of make-believe over reality.
