Shrunken Heads at 101 Films

101 Films in April are set to release a double bill from the Full Moon archives on Blu-ray . Post-apocalyptic, slime packed creature feature Creepozoids (1987) and bizarre voodoo comedy horror Shrunken Heads (1994)… All on Blu-ray

Creepozoids

Creepozoids 101 films
Originally released direct-to-video during the VHS boom, Creepozoids was made on a shoestring budget of just $150,000.  This was shot on 35mm—a rarity for B-movies of the era—and its impressive practical effects, which make great use of rubber suits, puppetry, and animatronics. Following its successful VHS release, Creepozoids was later distributed to drive-in theatres, where it quickly earned its rightful cult status.

Blending key elements of genre hits MAD MAX and ALIEN (while also incorporating elements of Band’s PARASITE and METALSTORM), but produced on a tenth of their budgets, CREEPOZOIDS tells the tale of five Army deserters who wander the post-apocalyptic, post-industrial LA landscape seeking shelter from an increasingly toxic environment and poisonous rain. They end up in an abandoned laboratory where they explore, have sex, and eventually run afoul of a cavalcade of genetically engineered creatures including mutant rats, a monstrous baby, a massive, bloodthirsty H.R. Giger-esque beast-and something even more malevolent. Co-starring adult film superstar Ashlyn Gere – appearing here as Kim McKamy – and horror movie legend Linnea Quigley (RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD, TROPHY HEADS), CREEPOZOIDS is a fun, weird and bloody trash classic that will make your flesh crawl right off its bones!

Shrunken Heads

Shrunken Heads at 101 Films
Directed by Richard Elfman with a cast that includes blaxploitation legend Julius Harris (Live and Let Die, The Taking of Pelham One Two Three) and Meg Foster (They Live, Masters of the Universe), whilst also boasting a theme tune composed by Tim Burton regular  Danny Elfman and Richard’s brother. Shrunken Heads blends absurd humour with supernatural horror, infused with a healthy dose of voodoo and witchcraft. Paramount released it on VHS, which only contributed to its growing cult appeal.

When three inner city kids are murdered in a gangland showdown gone wrong, a mysterious witch doctor opts to drag them back from the grave. Well, most of them anyway! The voodoo priest leaves the boys’ bodies and only reanimates their heads. Now, this trio of floating craniums is left to fly around New York with only one thing on their minds: revenge! Elfman fills the screen with his patented blend of absurdity, Grand Guignol effects, dark humour and surreal insanity and gives the beautiful Meg Foster (THEY LIVE,LORDS OF SALEM) one of her wildest roles, that of lesbian crime kingpin Big Moe. Powered by original music from Elfman’s brother, the award-winning composer Danny Elfman (BATMAN, THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, BEETLEJUICE), a delirious score by the great Richard Band (RE-ANIMATOR, PUPPET MASTER) and slick cinematography by Stephen McNutt (BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, THE DEAD ZONE), SHRUNKEN HEADS is one of the weirdest titles from the Full Moon archives.
