Whatever you think of horror James Wan has done a lot for the horror genre from Saw, Insidious and now The Conjuring. On 13th June The Conjuring 2 will creep into UK cinemas and today we have a new featurette which director James Wan discusses redefining the horror genre.
We are massive horror fans however some can argue the genre has been drained of every inch of terror. But as James Wan discusses in the latest promo he wants to bring life most of all respect back to the great film genre.
The Conjuring 2 sees Vera Farmiga (“Up In the Air,” TV’s “Bates Motel”) and Patrick Wilson (the “Insidious” films) reprising their roles, as paranormal Investigator couple Lorraine and Ed Warren, who, in one of their most terrifying paranormal investigations, travel to Enfield north London 1977 to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by malicious spirits.
We all know when a genre especially horror delivers a film or creates a sub genre that delivers the scares, it gets overran by similar films saturating what made it so good in the first place. In horror it’s really hard to deliver something uniquely original, fresh most of all terrifying and Wan is one filmmaker that’s working hard to bring back the fear to the genre. He did it with Insidious, then defied the odds done it again with The Conjuring, so the odds must be great for the director to deliver the goods with second movie. The Conjuring (like Insidious) stripped everything back to the basics with the focus on the terror. We sometimes don’t always appreciate the craftmanship of whats been made and with -true story’ factor also we have something exciting to look forward too later this month.
The Conjuring 2 is set for 17th June(previews 13th June) UK release date, co-starring Madison Wolfe, Frances O’Connor, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Simon McBurney and Franka Potente.
