Captain America: Brave New World Has Biggest Opening Of Any 2025 Film So Far
Captain America: Brave New World has opened to $100 million at the US box office and $192 million globally.
Having been released on Valentine’s Day and the Presidents Day holiday, the Marvel film is the biggest opening of 2025 to date.
This comes amid very mixed reviews for the superhero flick, however it currently boasts an 80% audience ranking on Rotten Tomatoes, with 50% from critics.
While globally Captain America: Brave New World started with $192.4 million globally, it launched to $92.4 million internationally. It cost $180 million to make before marketing.
The film sees Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie, take up the mantle of Captain America following Steve Rogers’s (Chris Evans) decision to give up the shield in Avengers: Endgame. It is directed by Julius Onah and stars Harrison Ford as President Thaddeus Ross, who was previously portrayed by William Hurt. Hurt appeared in five MCU films over 13 years but died in 2022. Ford takes over for the first time in Brave New World, taking the character to the next level as he contends with transforming into the Red Hulk.

It also stars Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres/Falcon, Liv Tyler, Tim Blake Nelson, and Rosa Salazar.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the gender split of moviegoers was 62% male and 48% female. Black moviegoers make up 23% of audiences, with Caucasions making up 35% of ticket buyers, followed by Latinos (23%), and Asians (10%).
The film scored the fourth-biggest Presidents Day four-day launch behind three other Marvel movies. These were 2018’s Black Panther ($242.2 million), 2016 film Deadpool ($152.2 million), and 2023’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania ($120 million). These are not adjusted for inflation.
Captain America: Brave New World is playing in cinemas now.
