Can First Love Last Forever? In First Heartstopper Forever Trailer
Kit Connor and Joe Locke return alongside the full cast for a heartfelt farewell to the beloved coming-of-age series.
The hit Netflix series Heartstopper is concluding with the film finale Heartstopper Forever, and you can watch the trailer here.
The British coming-of-age, romantic comedy series is created and written by Alice Oseman, based on her webcomic and graphic novel series of the same name. Following two teenagers, Nick Nelson (Kit Connor) and Charlie Spring (Joe Locke), whose friendship at Truham Grammar School develops into a romantic relationship, the series explores sexuality, gender identity, mental health, intimacy, and early adulthood.
But, in Heartstopper Forever, your favourite high schoolers are growing up. Nick and Charlie have always been inseparable, but as Nick prepares to leave for university and Charlie finds new independence at school, the long-distance relationship begins to weigh on them. Doubts take hold, and their relationship faces its biggest challenge yet. Meanwhile, their friends are also navigating the ups and downs of love and friendship, confronting the bittersweet challenges of growing up and moving on. Asking the question: Can first loves really last forever?
Tao (William Gao), Elle (Yasmin Finney), Darcy (Kizzy Edgell), Tara (Corinna Brown), Imogen (Rhea Norwood) and Isaac (Tobie Donovan) all return, embarking on bold new adventures in the film concluding the beloved series.
Patrick Walters, who has served as executive producer of every episode of Heartstopperย and the film, describes the stakes of this cusp moment: โTheyโre not adults yet, but thereโs that feeling of looking over the edge of a cliff, and you know you’re about to fall over it. Itโs going to be exciting, but youโre also scared. And that kind of energy and fizz is evolved and has a maturity, and still speaks to the teenage experience.โ
Speaking on the film conclusion, Oseman adds, “On a basic level, of course, I want the movie to be a beautiful and emotional send-off for the Heartstopper story โ celebrating what Heartstopper means to people, while offering a chance to say goodbye to our beloved characters, and many hints of whatโs to come in the charactersโ future lives.”
Continuing with “On a slightly deeper level, I think this movie will explore what makes love survive, or what elevates it, or deepens it. At 18 and 17, Nick and Charlie are hurtling towards their adult lives. Many teenage relationships donโt survive that pivotal moment of change. Are Nick and Charlie a forever love? If they are, why? I want the movie to capture this transitional moment for them as a couple โ from teens to adults, from teen romance to forever love, from past to future. And in doing so, get to the heart of what teenage love can become as adolescence becomes a memory, and what teenage love can mean for people in the overall picture of their lives. An exploration of time, memory, love, pain, the changing of the seasons, endings and beginnings, and the core element of Heartstopper: the ordinary magic of our everyday lives.”
Connor and Locke also join Iain Canning, Emile Sherman and Euros Lyn as executive producers. โThese characters have meant a lot to us over the years,โ Connor says. โAs EPs, it feels like we can really say goodbye to them in a way that feels the most right. It is bittersweet, but it is also a really nice way of ending it.โ Locke agrees, adding, โThis show has meant so much to me in my life. Iโll always carry that with me.โ
Heartstopper Forever releases on Netflix on 17th July.
