In Hollywood there is no such thing as a ‘normal’ astronaut, but when it comes to the first trailer for The Martian Matt Damon is our astronaut. First trailer for Ridley Scott’s epic thriller sees Damon once again trapped in Space , the silence deafening but our excitement is skyhigh…’just bring him home’!

The Martian is set during a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, Watney must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. Based on Andy Weir‘s best selling novel of the same name this is looking like “Gravity on Mars” which is not a negative towards but our lead actor Damon is not alone on this one. No matter if you didn’t like Scott’s more recent films you can’t deny visually quality and feel of those worlds are second to none. This looks visually stunning , wildly alluring and even has a sense of humour with Damon’s character playing on the ‘Science is Shit’.

You would think Matt Damon would have had enough of alien planets but this has a fantastic cast, respected director and writer (Drew Goddard)we may have an exciting possible Oscar. contender. If not one reason to warm up our Autumn with an engaging film to look forward too!

The Martian features a star studded cast that includes Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Pena, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Donald Glover. Film arrives in UK 27th November (tbc).
