Bradley Cooper Confirms His Next Directorial Feature Will Be Maestro

Nearly four years after his award winning  directorial feature debut A Star Is Born, Bradley Cooper has announced his next film he’s set to direct. Variety broke the news via their Actors On Actors interview series which  Cooper was paired with Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali. He announced that film will be Maestro, which is set to start filming in May.

The film is set for release on Netflix, which will be getting an theatrical and streaming release. Maestro  will be the biopic about legendary Broadway composer Leonard Bernstein and his relationship with his wife Felicia Montealegre. Cooper will play Bernstein with Carey Mulligan to play his wife Felicia who was also an actress of screen and stage.

Bernstein was the composer who worked on the classic such as On The Town, West Side Story,  On The Waterfront . He also worked on various Television shows, he also helped bring classical music to television with the New York Philharmonic‘s Young People’s Concerts.

Originally Steven Spielberg was set to direct this film with Cooper onboard only to play the titular role. However Spielberg schedule extremely busy and Cooper‘s reputation as director rose thanks to A Star Is Born, it seems he asked if he could direct too.

“‘I always felt like I could play a conductor, but may I research the material and see if I can write it and direct it? Would you let me do that?’. Steven has a lot of interests  he’ll just choose one thing and all of the other things will be on hold. I think he knew he wasn’t going to make that movie for a while. He was kind enough to hand it off to me, and that’s what I’ve been doing for the last four and a half years, and we start shooting in May.” Cooper said…
