This classic Sherlock Holmes mystery starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce, comes to Blu-Ray for the very first time from StudioCanal. Released on May 30th 2016 the film comes to DVD, Blu-Ray and Special edition DVD/Book gift set.
Sherlock Holmes is sent on another mysterious case when a series of murders at the Baskerville house over decades begins again and he and Watson investigate the strange events. With many fun and thrilling twists and turns. This is certainly a film for all to watch!
I am ashamed to say that I have never seen a Sherlock Holmes film and I am so pleased that this was the first one I watched to introduce myself into his world as I loved it so much.
After seeing it I am so glad that Studio canal have taken this film on for a release. It is truly a masterpiece of mystery cinema.
The transfer of the film from SC is also a highlight for me, I had a look at the Blu-ray and DVD releases and I have to say that the studio have done a brilliant job of restoring this film. Lets be honest I wouldn’t expect anything less from StudioCanal.
Although there were a couple of slight jumps and crackles in the print this was minor and didn’t affect the enjoyment factor. In fact I am open to say it made my experience of the film better because as the film was made in the 1930s I think a few crackles and jumps here and there actually help keep some of the vintage feel of the film alive.
Even though at this point in cinema history such film as the MGM Classics “The Wizard of Oz” and “Gone With The Wind” and Walt Disney’s “Snow White” were all dominating the Hollywood and world cinema scene and were doing it in technicolor, this actually made the film stand out as it was shot in Black and White again keeping that vintage feel alive.
There is not much else I can say about this film apart from how much I loved it! I can not wait to get my hands on a copy on 30th May 2016. It’s one of those films I feel I will watch time and time again. A true gem and wonderful film.
