Interview: Director Corey Sherman Chats About His Heartwarming Coming-Of-Age Film Big Boys
Writer/director Corey Sherman chats to TPM about his new film, Big Boys, which arrives in UK audiences this month. Following its World Premiere at the BFI Flare: London LGBTIQ+ Film Festival, with multiple award wins and acclaim from festivals all over the world, Big Boys is finally coming to UK audiences.
We talk about the genesis of the film, how he approached balancing the film’s tones of humour and vulnerability, casting Jamie, casting and more.
A teenage boyโs unexpected crush turns a camping trip into a weekend of self-discovery in this heartwarming coming-of-age comedy, starring a Best Breakthrough Performance from lead actor Isaac Krasner (Holland). Jamieโs dream camping trip is ruined before it even begins when he finds out that his beloved cousin is bringing her new boyfriend. However, Jamieโs initial jealousy of the competent and confident Dan quickly turns into a friendship as they bond over cooking, games, and both being โbig boysโ.
But as the weekend progresses, despite Jamieโs brotherโs attempts to set him up with a girl staying at the campsite, all Jamie wants to do is hang out with Dan. As his burgeoning crush gets him into awkward scrapes and arguments, Jamie begins to come to terms with who he is and who he desires. Also starring Dora Madison (Friday Night Lights), David Johnson III (Lady in the Lake), Taj Cross (Young Rock) and Emily Deschanel (Bones).
